About City
The city of Mathura is situated in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. As per the Indian mythology this is the place where lord Krishna spent this childhood and therefore it is called as the Krishna bhoomi or the Brajbhoomi. Mathura is situated at a distance of 58 kms from Agra and from Delhi it is 145 kms. The city is popular for its temples which are primarily dedicated to Krishna.
Mathura lies on the western bank of River Yamuna which exhibits the beautiful tales of the childhood of Lord Krishna. This ancient town still withholds its beauty and the magnificence architecture of the city cannot be put in words.
Earlier the city of Mathura was under the rule of King Ashoka, the Mauryan Empire when Buddhism flourished here. The Hinduism started declining at this place with the advent of Mughals. But under British rule, the Bhakti cult led to the revival of Hinduism.
Mathura experiences extreme tropical climate, with cold, foggy and chilly winters and excessive hot summers. The best time to visit this place is from October to March.
