Mathura Art

When we talk about Mathura then we have many interesting topics to discuss. Mathura has a large number of temples, sculptures, monuments. Anyone who is interested in studying art pattern of Mathura should know that Mathura is very rich in Art section. From 1^st to 5^th century, the inimitable art pattern of Mathura evolved. Many of the sculptures which have been found in Mathura are inspired by ancient Indian art forms. A number of Buddhist sculptures have been discovered in Mathura. They represent Buddhism.

During the period when Guptas and Kushans ruled Mathura, the art progressed itself a lot. Kushans loved to promote and take interest in the art. They ruled a large part of Northern India from 1^st to 175^th A.D. Mathura and Gandhara school of arts came in to existence during the rule of the Kushans. Gandhara is believed to be India’s own art form. However, many experts found out that Gandhara has taken its inspiration from the Greco-Roman rules of art. It is true that Mathura art form is original and it belongs to India only. It is evident that Mathura had some of the finest artists who painted the masterpieces of paintings and sculptures.
